Tea Cup Chihuahua
The name “Tea Cup Chihuahua” is actually an incorrect way to term small-sized Chihuahuas. Chihuahuas are supposed to be tiny, and this breed is considered to be the smallest one in the world. Chihuahuas are gentle and people-oriented by nature, and they are not designed for any hard work or service. Chihuahuas are excellent house companions, and they do not require much care.
The Chihuahua originated in Mexico, in the Chihuahua state. Most probably, the breed is related to the Techichi dog of ancient Toltecs, as it has been proven to be very similar with the modern Chihuahua in terms of appearance. The Techichi dog is long gone, and now it is hard to trace the circumstances of the appearance of the Chihuahua breed. The Chihuahua is believed to have been developed with the help of Chinese immigrants, who brought along the Chinese Crested Dog, which, in all likelihood, has been instrumental in creating the Chihuahua. The Chihuahua of today stands 6-10 inches high at the shoulder, and there are several informal terms applied to Chihuahuas of different sizes, such as “Tea Cup Chihuahuas”, “Miniature Chihuahuas”, “Pocket Size Chihuahuas”, etc.
Chihuahuas are tiny yet vivacious and saucy dogs. They have relatively large apple-shaped heads, large ruby eyes and sizeable erect ears. The muzzle is pointed. Chihuahuas are renowned for their saucy expression and protective temperament. These dogs are very hardy and brave, and they do not seem, and they are always ready to stand up for their loved ones and themselves. The size of the enemy does not seem to make any difference to them, as they are equally short with small and large unfamiliar dogs. The smallest “Tea Cup Chihuahuas” are even believed to be fiercer than larger ones.
Chihuahuas vary in color, and all colors and color permutations are acceptable except merle. Chihuahuas can be short-haired and long-haired. As to their physical structure, these two varieties are identical, except for the length of the coat. Sometimes, litters contain both long-haired and short-haired Chihuahuas. Both types are popular among breeders and Chihuahua fanciers, but some standards draw demarcation lines between them. Chihuahuas are healthy, active and intelligent. They should not be walked on cold or rainy days, because they chill easily. However, they do need daily walks, as it keeps them physically fit and boosts their mood. If you would like to purchase a Chihuahua, please, do not follow any advertisement presenting a “Tea Cup Chihuahua”, because this is highly indicative of lack of responsibility and competence on the breeder’s side and you may get a disappointing result.
